ESENCIA was a beautiful encounter between two musical and cultural languages from Colombian singer and guitarist Lau Gomez and DJ/Producer Luis Almeida (Kassuma Records) from São Tomé and Príncipe.
Driven by a curiosity to discover other melodies from around the world, and by embarking on a musical journey through Lusophone African countries, Lau discovered the repertoire of countries like Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Cape Verde, Angola, and, of course, São Tomé and Príncipe. Thanks to a musical arrangement of the song Saia Micolo by the Santomean group Conjunto Mindelo made in 2020, Dj Alma and Lau connected to create projects together, starting with the song Amole Caba by master Ricardo Costa and continuing this beautiful project ESENCIA.
Over three years, the adventure of this album took shape, blending Latin American and African rhythms and influences such as Semba, Samba, Marrabenta, Ijexa, Zouk, Cuban claves, Capoeira, Kizomba, Socopé, reggae, afro-beats, among others, giving it a universe that bridges traditional melodies and contemporary music styles.
In this way, ESENCIA brings a touch of harmony, light, sharing, and above all, joy to the creation of melodies that express the union of soul and heart through music. Each lyric, each song awakens and invites us to see life with positive vibrations and to feel every detail of existence that makes us who we are—a blend of each element: water, air, earth, fire, but most importantly, love.
